International Student Information

Advanced Flight Training in beautiful Ottawa, Ontario, Canada is an excellent choice for many International Students. West Capital Aviation is located at MacDonald Cartier International Airport (CYOW) - the primary airport of the Nation's Capital.

You can come train with us for a few days or a few months. Our programs are among the best in the world and we can help you find the best way to apply this training to your current license from your own country.

WCA's exclusive full-time International Advanced Training Program is an intense 1 month course targeted at students who already have their private and/or commercial licenses but are ready for the next step. The program covers: Multi-engine rating, Group 1 (multi-IFR) instrument rating, and advanced technical training including GPS and autopilot systems. Students enrolled in this program will have two training sessions per day and have access to WCA's study facilities for lesson and flight planning throughout the month. We will also help you coordinate all the required immigration documentation and accomodation. At the end of the training students also have the option to take some more relaxing "training" flights to Montreal, Toronto, and Niagara Falls.

Steps to Follow:

1. Contact our training coordinator at training@westcapitalaviation.com to request information on a specific course and timeframe. You will need to provide the following information:

The Aviation Authority Your Current License is Issued Under (JAA, CAA, other?)

Your Current License (Private or Commercial)

Your Current Ratings (Multi-Engine and/or Instrument)

Total Times (must be certifiable... you will need to bring your logbook(s)): PIC, PIC Cross-Country, Instrument Time (simulated and actual), Multi-Engine time)

Estimated Date of Arrival in Canada

2. Once you have been in touch with our training coordinator you will likely be advised to contact your local aviation authority to confirm what steps are required to convert a Canadian multi-engine and/or Group 1 instrument rating to your local equivalents. You may be able to simply transfer them over or a written and/or flight test may be required.

3. When you are comfortable with the conversion details you can apply for a Canadian LTPL/MC (Limited Term Pilot License / Medical Certificate) using the following form: LTPL/MC Application Form.

4. When you arrive in Canada we'll complete the LTPL/MC application details and start your training. We will receive a copy of your LTPL/MC that we will reference for your training.

5. You will complete your training and flight tests for the multi-engine and IFR ratings. You will take a written exam for the INRAT (IFR knowledge test).

6. Once you have completed your flight and written tests the information will be sent to Transport Canada and your updated LTPL/MC will be mailed to your home address in your home country.

7. When you get home contact your local aviation authority and transfer your new ratings to your existing license.
